The Loyalist Landing 2008 Society has been formed as a Non-Profit, Volunteer Organization to recognize the 225th anniversary of the Loyalist Landing in Shelburne, Nova Scotia in 1783.
The Society has two principal objectives.
1.
To mark the anniversary with historical, multi-cultural, contemporary and participative events appealing to as wide an audience as possible.
2.
To create a solid foundation for a sustainable, continuing annual festival celebrating and commemorating historical and cultural facets and experiences of the Loyalists who settled in Nova Scotia.
The Society is comprised exclusively of volunteers who will undertake the weight of the work involved to bring this objective to fruition.
Many of the individuals are direct descendants of the original Loyalists and several were part of the 200th anniversary celebrations in 1983.
The LL08 Society’s structure consists of an oversight Board of Directors; an executive committee of three (one chair, a secretary and a treasurer); and several sub-committees, each charged with planning and implementing a single key aspect related to the celebration.
