Loyalist Layabouts and Dancing Beggars: The Rapid Rise and Faster Fall of Shelburne, Nova Scotia 1783-1792
Book launch and reading by Stephen Kimber, a well known Nova Scotia professor, journalist and author. The Shelburne County Archives & Genealogical Society provided research material and advice for this historical novel about the founding of Shelburne. The Prince of Wales Historic Dancers, 18th century dancers in period dress, will be performing.

Founding Families who Came and Stayed in Shelburne, Nova Scotia 1783 -1787
By Eleanor Robertson Smith, UE. Publication detailing the early families that settled the area and includes two generations of each family, their properties, occupations, wills, etc. A number of their houses remain as heritage homes, as do their heritage gravestones and their names are retained in land promontories, lakes, brooks, streets and court records. Readings will be given by descendants of Loyalists, Black Loyalists, slaves, shipbuilders, disbanded soldiers, etc. The Shelburne County Arts Council will have a display by artists who are Loyalist descendants. Artifacts on display will be loaned by the Black Loyalist Heritage Society from the archeological dig at Birchtown, Shelburne County.

Captain William Booth Royal Corps of Engineers …Shelburne, Nova Scotia 1787 -1789
Booth’s rough memorandums depict people, their lives and activities, their gardens, medical practices, details of a funeral and prices in early Shelburne. This transcription is unique and an important reference tool to researchers. Skits will be provided by the Shelburne Basement Theatre group, depicting scenes from the diary. And local re-enactment group, Shelburne’s New Jersey Volunteers, 3rd Battalion, will favour the audience with a military drill. Well known local musician Robbie Smith will perform a rendition of two songs written by William Booth while he resided in Shelburne. Brian Ogilvie, a member of the Shelburne Re-enactment Association will display his authentic hand-crafted powder horns.

Lost Mariners of Shelburne County Volume 3
To commemorate those mariners lost at sea who came from the Baccaro, Port LaTour and Barrington areas of Shelburne County, as well as those missed in the previous volumes. Readings will be done by family members of those that were drowned. Leading up to the launch will be two church services - in Lockeport and in Port LaTour. The book launch will be held at the Stone Church in Clark’s Harbour, Cape Sable Island, Shelburne County. Neighbouring children will lead the way to the water's edge where several fishermen will transport a number of family members out to lay wreaths in the harbour in commemoration of their lost loved ones.
