The Post Office will be holding a small reception on May 5th, more details will be posted here shortly.
As a keen philatelist the Society Treasurer, with input from other local stamp collectors, has worked to develop a number of philatelic products for collectors and visitors to Shelburne this year.  Actually, the products will be available on May 5th to anyone who would like to own one or more of the items.
The three items are a Picture Postage Stamp, a Cachet Envelope and a Philatelic Pictorial Cancel (or Cancellation stamp for us lay folk) to commemorate the Shelburne Loyalist Landing.
The Treasurer has worked with Canada Post to produce a collectible Picture Postage Stamp with a very suitable and colourful image.  Although the stamp will be of interest to collectors and anyone looking to have an inexpensive souvenir of the 225th anniversary of the loyalists’ landing, the stamp is also real postage.  Each Picture Postage stamp will always be valued at the current domestic rate which means that letters up to 30 grams will be delivered to any Canadian address, no matter what the letter rate at the time.
The Philatelic Pictorial Cancel is approved by Canada Post and will be used on mail cancelled at the Shelburne Post office, starting May 5th, 2008.  The cancellation displays our familiar “Loyalist Heritage” logo as well as the main reason for the cancellation - our 225th anniversary of the loyalists’ landing in 1783.  Cancellations are free.  All you need to do is to present an envelope with an attached stamp to the post office and the friendly staff will do the rest - always with a smile, too.  For more information from Canada Post on these and other cancellations Click Here. No Cost.
Finally to round out the available stamp products, a Cachet Envelope (#10 size) with an immediately recognizable Shelburne landmark has also been designed.
For those trying to think of a suitable stamp and envelope upon which to get a cancellation, the other two stamp products should be of interest.
The Picture Postage stamp is a self adhesive stamp and will be available as singles, in multiples and in Keepsake sheets of 20 stamps.  Sheets of 40 stamps will also be available.
